More arrests now for speaking out against NDAA

America is the new, repressive, totalitarian state. Our Constitutional rights are meaningless (unless you are rich or politically connected). Mass arrests for speaking out, peacefully, against the NDAA. Happened the other day in Grand Central Terminal, NYC. Check it out.

This is fantastic street theater. TPTB just don't get it. This is not millions but billions of dolars in free PR.

Occupy is just gearing up around the world. This country and world are soon going up in smoke. Again, the predictions of Ravi Batra and Strauss & Howe are being borne out by events.

When will TPTB learn that you can't eat your youth and survive yourself. The dinosaurs are doomed.

FB'd and Twitter'd it.

You're not supposed to interfere with a police officer when they are making an arrest - or you could be arrested. This was not that violent. I guess I'm used to seeing more aggressive police behavior.

Laura, the question is the line between disorderly conduct and free speech. This is a very sensitive issue in the US right now since corporations were declared persons cover by the Bill of Rights and accorded the right to unlimited undisclosed political donations as free speech. They people see this kind of thing and it gets them thinking.

This is not a protest as usually conceived. It is straight up street theater and it is working big time as part of an asymmetric strategy of radicalization.

It's a legal issue then, whether it was disorderly conduct. The police did not make an arrest for political reasons.

Interesting comments. I would like to see Laura discuss her legal objections with a furious French farmer ;-) Hello, you are not supposed to interfere with ...

This kind of thing gets settled in court. One of the plays of asymmetrical confrontation is to tie up the courts with challenges, creating expense, and generally throw spanners in the works. It's part of the overall strategy.

Laura,

Making an arrest for what??

Lauren Digioia was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

I hope she demands a trial so we can see how the judge deals with it. Eventually this is all going to end up in the Supreme Court, to force them to distinguish between the free speech of natural persons and the free speech of legal persons (corporations). This is one of the big areas of contention in the US.

According to the PPP poll, only 33 percent of likely voters in South Carolina believe that corporations are people, while 67 percent said that only people are people. link

South Carolina is one of the most conservative states in the Union. TPTB are on the wrong side of this one.

Zuccotti Park Barricades Removed: Occupy Wall Street Protesters Stream Back In To Former Camp

"Word spread pretty quickly, and we ran down here," demonstrator Lauren DiGioia said. "It's hard to remember what it was like before the barricades were put up."

On Monday, civil rights groups filed a complaint with the city's buildings department saying the barricades were a violation of city zoning law because they restricted public access to the space. The New York Civil Liberties Union commended the removal of the barricades in a statement late Tuesday.

"We're pleased the city is finally giving the park back to the people," said NYCLU Executive Director Donna Lieberman. "We hope Zuccotti Park can now resume its rightful place as a center for meeting and protest in New York City."

Free speech for corporations means they are free to donate money, as are individuals. How is this related to the right to speak in public?

Laura, the perception is the that US citizens are being deprived of their First Amendment rights while the Bill of Rights is being further and further extended to corps. Citizens United is just the first step in a concerted campaign to suppress individual rights and increase the right of corps. This is turning into a huge issue in the US now politically.
